摘要：
社会主义思想在中国的早期传播，是由一系列因素造成的。美国媒体在1920年代关于社会主义在中国传播的报道和评论，把社会主义的扩张放到中国学生运动和工人运动蓬勃发展的大环境中进行分析。当时西方许多观察者认为，布尔什维主义不适合中国社会，也不相信布尔什维主义能得到大多数知识分子的青睐。他们错误地判断社会主义在中国的传播只是青年学生的心血来潮，或者是受到外力鼓动的结果，却没有清楚看到当时中国政治、经济、社会矛盾正酝酿着深层次的变革，没有充分意识到中国民族主义的兴起和反对帝国主义的运动，为社会主义思潮的传播创造了绝佳的条件。

Abstract:
The early spread of socialist thought in China was caused by a series of factors. The reports and comments of American media on the spread of socialism in China in the 1920s analyzed the expansion of socialism in the context of the vigorous development of China’s student movement and workers’ movement. At that time, many Western observers believed that Bolshevism was not suitable for Chinese society, and they did not believe that Bolshevism could be favored by most intellectuals. They misjudged that the spread of socialism in China was just a whim of young students. They were not fully aware of the rise of Chinese nationalism and the movement against imperialism, which created excellent conditions for the spread of socialist thought.
