The proposal of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics marks the turning of China’s diplomacy, and China has begun to carry out diplomatic activities as a great power. However, since the traditional great-power diplomacy has the logic that a strong country is bound to seek hegemony, a stronger China is often questioned that it will definitely follow the same older logic of the traditional great-power diplomacy. From the characteristics of great-power diplomacy, it can be found that the older logic of traditional diplomacy is embodied in four aspects: maintaining the status of great-power, safeguarding the interests of great-power, promoting the will of great-power and taking on the responsibility of great-power respectively, with bully and hegemony as its core feature. At present, at the backdrop that the world is undergoing changes unseen in a century, China’s peaceful rise process has shown that China can not and will not seek hegemony. Therefore, in this era, the choice of major country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics is to think about how to break the older logic of a strong country bound to seek hegemony and realize China’s peaceful rise. China should open up a new and different path in the above-mentioned four aspects to achieve win-win situation between China and the world.
